IRCICA has the pleasure to introduce to the world of learning its six-volume bio-bibliographic compendium covering the works on the history of the Islamic world - the Ottoman State in particular, which were written in different languages during the six centuries of Ottoman history over its intercontinental area. The volumes record in chronological order, the works produced in Anatolia, the Balkans, Eastern Europe, Caucasia, Crimea, the west of Iran, the Middle East and North Africa, their authors or translators, together with detailed information obtained from their contents and numerous other sources. The majority of the works are about Ottoman political history, but there are also different kinds of sources on the history of Islam, world history, history of thought, archeology, memoirs, travelogues, and other subjects. The introductory parts of the book synthesize findings about the 4351 authors that were identified, their works, and the trends of historical literature in general, distributed according to regions, periods and topics. The compendium was prepared at IRCICA by Mehmet Serdar Bekar and Veysel Bulut, experts of source studies on Islamic history and Ottoman history, under the editorship of Prof. Dr. Cengiz Tomar; it is published with the Foreword of Prof. Dr. Mahmud Erol Kılıç as the 10th title in IRCICA’s series of Ottoman History of Science Literature.
