This book contains fourteen articles presented in Arabic during the International Symposium on ”Works on Arabic Language, Rhetoric, and Literature in the 8th/14th Century” organized by Istanbul Medeniyet University, Marmara University, IRCICA, and the Islamic Research Center (ISAM) and held on 6-7 December 2024 in Istanbul. The book’s preface by Prof. Mahmud Erol Kılıç (Director General, IRCICA) and the editors’ introduction are elaborate and informative on the subject. The articles constitute a representative sample of the state of research on the subject with respect to the Mamluk period. As explained at the symposium’s opening by Prof. Cengiz Tomar (Head of Research and Publications, IRCICA) the engagement of IRCICA in this field ensues from the role of Arabic language and literature in cultural interactions among Muslim peoples and their contributions to world cultural heritage; from this viewpoint, the 14th century was a period of major works written in Arabic in religious sciences, natural sciences, philosophy, poetry, literature, and other fields. The articles contribute valuable new insights and information to studies on the subject.
