Cultural History of Islam and the Yasawiya in Kazakhstan and Central Asia

The 29 studies presented in this book in Kazakh translation from their original versions in English represent a substantial portion of the scholarly work of Emeritus Professor Devin DeWeese published over the past 40 years. His publications have dealt vastly with the religious and cultural history of Islamic Central Asia, covering the Sufi communities and above all the Yasavī Sufi tradition. The collection consists of over one-third of the published articles of Prof. DeWeese. His research on the spread, development, and heritage of Islamic culture in Central Asia is based on original manuscripts in Chagatai Turkish, Arabic and Persian, as well as on historical narratives and epic literature.
